Marriage of Mr G R Spink and Miss M Smith
The first marriage under the new ‘Authorised Person’ regulations took place on Saturday, July 2nd, the happy pair being Mr George Robert Spink and Miss Margaret Smith, and the officiating minister, the Rev Leonard Hale. Both bride and groom are well known amongst us and have rendered useful services to our church, Bob mainly in connection with the Social Club ans Margaret in the Sunday School. The cerremony took place in the presence of a large congregation and afterwards about 150 guests partook of the wedding feast in the schoolroom, where the wedding presents were on view. We join in congratulations and good wishes for future happiness to our young friends.

METHODIST CHURCH
The Rev L Hale conducted the morning service at the Methodist Church on Sunday, and the evening service was conducted by the Rev C E B Cowburn. The afternoon Bible class was conducted by Mr G T Dumville who also, on behalf of the members, presented Bibles to Mr and Mrs G R Spink to mark their recent marriage, and to Miss June White and Mr E Walker, who are to be married in the near future.

METHODIST SOCIAL CLUB
On Tuesday evening the presentation of an electric iron, salad bowl and servers was made to Mr and Mrs G R Spink to mark their wedding. Mr J W Havard, who made the presentation on behalf of the members and members of the church, spoke of the valuable work rendered by both Mr and Mrs Spink in the club and church, and expressed the best wishes of everyone for their future happiness. BOB SPINK.

Bob attended woodhouse grammar school until he was 17, and had obtained his school certificate with a distinction in maths, since then he has worker for the English steel corporation.

For 18 months he worked as an apprentice engineer doing machine work and fitting. One year of that time was spent in the firm's training shop under trained instructors.

Then he was transferred into the drawing office. His work is concerned wholly with the reconstruction and repair of the steel melting furnaces and the plant. Whenever anything needs repairing, he has to inspect the damage and then make detailed drawings which are passed on to the fitters who make the parts.

All the time Bob has been working, he has been doing part-time study. He took, and passed, his national certif1cate in mechanical engineering in 1950. He has taken his higher national certificate this year, and will have his results by the time this is published. He is now about to do his 2 years national service, but will return to the some work eventually.
