THE LATE MR A. NAYLOR - The death occured on Tuesday week of Mr Alfred Naylor, aged 72, of 16 Mill Lane, Treeton. Deceased was well known and respected in the village, where he had resided for over fifty years. During that period he had worked at both the local collieries, and retired only a few months ago. He was a member of the Kenn's Pride Lodge of the Rotherham Druids. The funeral took place on Saturday, the service being conducted by the Rector (the Rev W. F. Kerr, M.A.).
The mourners were Mrs Alice Naylor (Widow), Mrs (sic) James Naylor (brother) and his daughter, of Barnsley, Mrs Merrick, of Derby (Sister), Mr and Mrs T Haynes (son-in-law and daughter), Mr and Mrs Alfred Naylor (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs Ernest Naylor (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs F Sales (son-in-law and daughter), Mrs J Bishop (daughter), Mr and Mrs B Baugh (son-in-law and daughter), Mr and Mrs J Hoskin (son-in-law and daughter), Mr and Mrs S Nicholson (son-in-law and daughter), Mr and Mrs G Dixon (son-in-law and daughter), Mr and Mrs W Naylor (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs Bernard Naylor (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs H Cutts (brother and sister-in-law), Mrs F Shaw (sister-in-law), Mr T Haynes, Mrs H Hill, Miss Beatrice Bishop, Mr Eric Nicholson, Mr Herman Naylor (grandchildren), Mrs Robinson (cousin), Miss Jessie Shaw, Miss Bertha Shaw, Mrs B Shaw (nieces), Mr Tom Hill, Mr D Cater, and Mrs Smith. The population of Treeton was 312 in 1801, 383 in 1871 and 2,450 in 1901. This was due to the effects of the coal mine in Treeton which was worked from 1875.
